Erythromycin Ophthalmic Ointment is a wide range antibiotic. Each gram contains: Erythromycin 5mg, Mineral Oil and White Petrolatum base.


For the treatment of superficial ocular infections involving the cornea and/or the conjunctiva by organisms susceptible to Erythromycin.

For prophylaxis of ophthalmia neonatorium due to Neisseria gonorrhea or Clamydia trachomatis.


This drug is contraindicated in patients with history of hypersensitivity to erythromycin.


The use of antimicrobial agents may be associated with the overgrowth of antibiotic resistant organisms. For such a case, administration should be stopped and appropriate measures should be taken.

Adverse Reaction:

As with any other topical medications there is always the possibility that sensitivity reactions will occur in certain individuals if such reaction occurs. Medication should be discontinued.

Dosage and Administration:

In the treatment of external ocular infection Erythromycin Ophthalmic Ointment should be applied directly to the affected structure, one or more times daily depending on the severity of the infection.

For prophylaxis of Neonatal gonococcal or Clamydial conjunctivitis, a 1cm ribbon of ointment should be applied into each conjunctival sac.

How Supplied:

Erythromycin Ophthalmic Ointment is supplied in 3.5 g tubes with ophthalmic tip applicator.


Should be stored at room temperature preferably controlled not to exceed 30 °C.
