Chloramphenicol Otic Drops 0.5% is a sterile prepapration. Each mL of solution contains: Active: Chloramphenicol 0.5%; Vehicle: Methocel E4m as a thickening agent; Inactive: Boric Acid as a stabilizer; Preservative: Thimerosal.

Indications and Usage:

For the treatment of chronic suppurative otitis media, otitis externa, chronic otorrhea, infections of fenestration and mastoid operation cavities, and other ear infections cause by gram-positive and gram-negative organisms, including: Staphylococcus aureus (micrococcus pyogenes), Escheria coli, Haemophilus influenza, aerobacter aerogenes, Klebsiella Pneumoniae and Proteus species.


Prolonged or frequent intermittent use of topical Chloramphenicol should be avoided because of possibility of hypersensitivity reactions, including bone marrow hypoplasia.


In all, except for superficial infections, topical Chloramphenicol should be supplemented by appriopriate systemic medication. Overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms may occasionally result. Appropriate measures should be taken.


Instill 2 drops of liquid into the external auditory canal. If necessary, a wick can be soaked with 4-6 drops and packed loosely into the infected cavities, but should be renewed every 12-24 hours.

Adverse Reaction:

Neomycin is a common skin sensitizer, therefore, prolonged use of Neomycin may result in ocular irritation (hypersensitivity).

Dosage and Administration:

Solution: Instill one or two drops in the lower conjunctival sac(s) three or more times daily as required. Ointment: Instill about half-inch ribbon into the conjunctival sac(s) at night when used adjunctively with solution.

Chloramphenicol Ear Drops is available in 5 mL plastic dropper container.


Keep tighly closed after every use. Store in cool place.
